Jigs are the most versatile lures ever. They are able to take on many forms and behaviors that appeal to bass. But don’t just tie one on and call it a day. Check this video out for some info on enhancing your jigs. Remember, it’s the little things that count. Trimming a few skirt strands or changing trailers might not seem like much, but it radically transforms the look of your jig and can make a big difference. Don’t get stuck in a jig rut!!
I like to remove some of the skirt mass whenever my trailer has a realistic look. If you’re trailer has a couple little legs and lifelike pincers, you don’t want any of the skirt material concealing it. In general, the clearer the water, the more lifelike I want the appearance.
Skirt material is more of an illusion and something to provide a target as well as a little action. If the water is clear, the skirt looks less like an illusion and more like a wad of silicone strands. This is why it’s cool to trim/pull some off. You don’t want overkill with the finicky fish of clear water. Let the realism of your trailer choice do some of the work for you!
Fish Strong!
