Finding Real Gas

Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby.

If you’ve been paying attention at all, you’ve no doubt heard about the consequences of using ethanol fuels in your boat’s outboard and vehicle.  Recently the infinitely competent and all-knowing environmental overlords at the EPA approved the use of “E15″ for sale at the pumps — as if E10 wasn’t bad enough.   This was surely an unbiased process of which the corn lobbies and special interest groups had no influence.

I go out of my way (within reason) to buy my fuel from stations that sell REAL gas.  The hard stuff.  100 proof.  My engine runs better, it adds at least 20-25 miles to my tank, not too mention more horsepower.  Good ol’ 100% gasoline has a higher energy content too and will get you slightly better MPG. Ethanol is to gasoline what rice cakes are to steak. I’d rather eat steak. My truck would rather have gasoline.

I see a lot of talk about fuel additives and how to treat the problem.  That’s great, but what about avoiding it altogether and voting with your dollar?  I’d rather buy from stations that defy this “corny” trend.  E10 and E15 is for political benefit, not scientific benefit.

I’m still surprised more people aren’t aware of these great resources.  If you’re lucky you might find a station near you or along a route you commonly take to and from one of your favorite lakes.
